"Changing The Way School is Done!"

Welcome to The Beverly Institute!
It is our pleasure to welcome you to The Beverly Institute. Our organization is comprised of energetic and creative individuals
dedicated to achieving a standard of excellence. Since 2003, we have helped students build confidence in themselves and their
abilities. Know that both you and your student are valuable to us as part of our organization. We hope that you find your
experience with us, this academic year, to be rewarding and satisfying.
School Scripture
Mark 10: 13-16
And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them. But when
Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of
such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not
enter therein. And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.
La'Tanya Dewberry (Click Here)
La'Tanya Dewberry founded The Beverly Institute (TBI) in 2003 on two very basic
principles. The first principle was to teach and live the doctrines of Jesus Christ. The
second principle was to offer a fine academic program. She believes that these two
principles complement one another, working together to form the whole person. Using
these principles as her beacon, she took a small group of children who were
struggling in school and/or had learning disabilities and started an independent home-
schooling program. La'Tanya Dewberry’s passion was not only for children but for
parents with the desire to take control of their child's education. Today, Mrs.
Dewberry is even more passionate about helping her students and parents
accomplish this goal; making each of them a priority and special part of her life.
History of Our School and Its Name
From its conception, The Beverly Institute (TBI) was dedicated to faith, family,
love, and the pursuit of excellence. Its founder, La’Tanya Dewberry, named
the school after one of the most influential people in her life; her mother
(Mrs. Beverly Jean Shelton), in honor of the life she lived and the love she
had for children. Mrs. Beverly Jean Shelton was a woman of great courage
and strength; so much so that La’Tanya chose to name her oldest daughter,
Beverly Ann Shelton, after her.
La’Tanya’s daughter, Beverly, was born with epilepsy and struggled in her
cognitive development throughout elementary school. Unsatisfied with the
lack of support from the school system, in 2003, La’Tanya took her daughter
along with four other struggling students and began to home-school them out of her small two bedroom apartment. By the end of
that school year the number of students had grown to 12, which required her to move into a house in order to accommodate
them. In 2005, the home-schooling program became a small Christian private school recognized by the Florida Department of
Education. The following year, the number of students had grown to 36 and TBI was moved into its own building.
La’Tanya’s passion for education and family caused her not to limit the types of students admitted into The Beverly Institute. She
chose to extend her arms further by opening the door to students: with various learning disabilities, that were multiple years
behind, looking for a break from the traditional classroom setting. Her perseverance has helped her to reach many students and
place them on track for academic success; allowing them to reenter traditional classrooms anywhere with confidence.
Over 80% of the students who have come through TBI’s doors have successfully transitioned back into traditional school settings,
both public and private, at or above grade level. This level of success is possible because of the special curriculum TBI utilizes,
designed by La’Tanya herself. It adjusts for slow learners giving them an opportunity to learn without the pressures and demands
of a time schedule. It adjusts for faster learners by reduces the time required for (a course of study) by intensifying the work, and
allowing the student to advance forward. A Personalized Education Plan is created for each student to ensure that their
schooling experience is a great one. This affords each student the opportunity to move forward at their own pace, so that no
student will be held back or limited by another student based on his/her understanding of a lesson.
The Beverly Institute is a special place, one of transition. It is a family-oriented, Christian school that promotes character and
personal development. Through her efforts, La’Tanya and her staff have impacted the lives of hundreds of students; not only
changing their lives academically but spiritually as well. Today TBI is still run with the principles that it was founded on; faith,
family, love, and the pursuit of excellence. It is La’Tanya’s goal to assist each parent with the educating and personal
development of his/her child.
